Beacon Business Park in Stafford has generously donated three brass instruments to the music department at their neighbouring school, The Weston Road Academy, enabling future generations of students to widen their educational experiences and have the chance to learn a valuable new skill.
Benson Greatrex, one of the directors of Beacon Business Park, presented the school with two trumpets and one French horn on Wednesday 20 January 2016.
Pupils from Weston Road Academy had entertained commercial property professionals from across the Midlands at the opening of Beacon Business Park’s 50 acre site extension in September last year. Their musical ensemble, led by Bill Moss, head of performing arts at the Academy, put on an impressive performance for guests. The show was thoroughly enjoyed by all, including the Mayor of Stafford, Peter Jones.
Bill Moss, who has been teaching music for over 25 years, says “learning to play a musical instrument not only develops personal confidence and team skills, but it is proven to improve academic success in other areas too. Young people really look forward to and enjoy being involved in music, and the joy it brings can have a lasting positive effect on other areas of their life. The rewards should not be overlooked.”
Benson Greatrex added “The launch event was a great success, the fantastic performance of the youngsters from Weston Road Academy ensemble was a great showcase for their talents and enthusiasm. The school has a fantastic reputation for musical education and we hope the instruments will be enjoyed for many years to come.”
