As part of inspiring New Travel Options (INTO) Stafford initiative, Beacon Business Park has received planning permission to install a cycle storage shelter that will be free to use for the hundreds of people who work on the site.
Planning permission 15/21640/Ful was granted on 13 March 2015 by Stafford Borough Council, and is part of the local commitment to sustainability.
INTO Stafford has promoted smarter travel choices such as walking, lift sharing, public transport, and cycling, to open up access to jobs, education and services in Stafford. The scheme started in June 2012 by the Department for Transport’s Local Sustainable Fund (LSTF) and is due to finish at the end of March 2015.
The directors at Beacon Business Park were eager to join in the initiative and promote cycling as a safe, healthy and economical travel options for employees who work on the Weston Road.
The cycling unit is due to be installed near the security lodge at the business park’s new access so will be monitored 24 hours each day.
It will be funded by LSTF and is hoped to be installed by April 2015 to coincide with the brighter mornings and milder weather – a great incentive for people to get on their bike and cycle to work.
Declan Riddell of the INTO team said: “The new cycle storage area will be of real benefit to anyone working at Beacon Business Park and wanting to cycle to and from work. A lack of suitable cycle storage is often seen as a barrier to cycling, so we hope the new storage area will remove that barrier.”
