A key milestone has been reached in the Beacon Business Park development with the completion of a new roundabout at the A518 junction with Blackheath Lane and Weston Road.
The new roundabout will vastly improve access to the business park, ease congestion, and support jobs growth.
A grant of £1.7 million from the government’s Growing Local Pinch Point Fund was awarded in May 2013, facilitating construction of the much-needed roundabout. Construction was carried out by Staffordshire County Council’s highway team with support from ISE Estates Ltd.
Traffic problems and a poor safety record were problems at Blackheath Lane. It was known locally as a road bottleneck, causing congestion on the main eastern commuter route into Stafford.
The new roundabout has now removed this and will be able to support the extension of Beacon Business Park’s 50 acre employment zone, which is anticipated to generate 2000 jobs within the local area.
It is predicted that the new junction will also unlock £9.5 million of private sector investment within the next three years, increasing the attractiveness of the site to world-class companies.
“We are delighted with the new roundabout,” commented Alison Park, one of the directors of Beacon Business Park. “The work was carried out very smoothly by Staffordshire County Council, and we are already seeing the benefits of improved access with a growth in the number of enquiries regarding the site.”
